DACCORDOU. LA PRÉSENCE CULTURELLE ITALIENNE EN TUNISIE (2025)
My work is characterized by a constant examination of the status of the image as a document and its significance in terms of representation, authorship, and materiality. At the core of my projects lies a questioning of the principles considered fundamental to the very status of photography, such as the representation of reality at a chronologically definable moment and the emphasis on style, understood as an element of recognizability.
For this project on Italy-Tunisia relations, I have developed a series in which the images – taken during my recent trip to Tunisia – engage in a dialogue with photographs from my own archive (taken during a previous trip in 1992) and with various other historical and contemporary archives. Added to these are the possibilities offered by the new landscapes generated by artificial intelligence. The result is a pluralistic typological exploration, characterized by variations and recurrences, comparisons and connections, within a system of relationships between images that is necessarily dialogic and transversal, across space and time, where the time, understood as a conceptual tool (and its subsequent erasure), is the true protagonist.
